Sea Lion of Approval

May 12, 2013

Friends in likely places? I think that’s a big YES. Jill and I decided to head out to the beach. I was certain what we were going to get with a morning at the beach. Then Lizabet from Inspiration Paddleboard Co. approached us with questions. I am a kayaker and paddleboarder so I giggled with excitement when she made the offer to use her paddles.

Lizabet was kind enough to let us use her paddles for the beach scene!

Then as we were photographing, an adorable pup showed up. Nope. Not a dog. A sea lion pup!!!!

The pup came up to see what we were doing then flip flopped back in to the waves to play. He was having the best time. We continued forward trying to beat the crowds and the incoming tide. Below is a sampling of what we got for hand dyed samples. I snuck one of Joie’s hand knits in because Jill did such an awesome job with photography. It’s the only piece not in our yarn.

Enjoy!

Side note: “Water is a creative element and symbolizes the feminine imagination and intuition. If the seal appears in your life, pay close attention to your imagination and insight – in the waking state and in dream time. A lot of what you imagine generally has a strong basis in reality, no matter how far-off it may seem. People with seal as a power animal are generally highly imaginative and very creative. They will need activities that channel and direct this. The Seal/Sea Lion can show you how to develop and focus your imagination….The seal which is so sleek and gorgeous in the water, teaches us how to feel at home in our bodies, and to uncover our inner beauty.” By Ina Woolcott

Pink is my …. friend?

Well, Ladies & Gentleman, I was just complaining to my partner in dye, Jill, that I made the mistake of crossing paths with an old flame. That same afternoon I headed out back to the dye kitchen and, literally, everything was pink. I tried for red. I tried for purple. Thursday morning I revisited my finished work and it felt like I had walked in a to lovey-dovey garden. Cupid hit me hard.

Jill was ready to dye browns, emeralds and blues. The world was set right this morning. She then took red by the horns and mastered the art of making ALL of the dye to dilute in the boiling hot water. She giggled like a squeaky girl when the dye began to pop and crackle.

We also discovered that your personality can affect the outcome. Jill had her mind set on nicely blended colors and every skein I touched looks hand painted! The hilarity is killing me.

We are now on a dye hiatus!
